About Turaco Tree Tops

Welcome to the newest lodge in Kibale Forest, Uganda's primate heaven!
The evergreen rainforests of Uganda's west contain lowland and montane forests that sustain a bevy of wildlife. Together, Kibale Forest National Park and Queen Elizabeth National Park serve as an important corridor for wildlife, and provide 180 square kilometres of wilderness for some 13 species of primates, and forest elephants, among others. The brand-new Turaco Tree Tops borders Kibale Forest, allowing easy access for days of exploration. A rustic camp built into the trees, it offers sublime views of the canopy and the snow-capped Rwenzori range.

Property details

The property

A rustic, characterful structure with a peaked roof, tall windows and a broad deck, the main area houses the restaurant, a lounge area with a fireplace, a bar, and a first-floor lounge with spectacular views over the forest and theRwenzoris. Meals are very good, and the bar is well-stocked. After a day out, it's the ideal spot to sip an ice-cold local brew and watch the sun set. Also here are free wi-fi and charging docks.

The rooms

Private chalets in the forest are reached via wooden walkways, along which you're likely to encounter monkeys, bushbabies and birds galore. Each chalet, built on stilts and ringed by a wooden deck, has good views over the canopy toward the spine of mountains. Inside, your creature comforts include a double bed with good mattress, a sitting area, en-suite bathroom with hot shower and flush toilet. Large windows allow plenty of natural light, and a ceiling fan keeps the air flowing.

Activities

Kibale Forest is the principal attraction in the area. This exceptional slice of forest is home to a variety of primates and around 350 bird species, including the flamboyant blue turaco, the camp's namesake. (This lovely, blue-plumaged bird has a crested head and long, rattling call.) Gorilla treks are superb, as are outings to see the chimps that, although accustomed to onlookers, are nevertheless thoroughly wild. Birdwatching, night walks, mountain biking and village visits are also on the activity menu.
