Umlani Bushcamp is situated within the Timbavati Private Nature Reserve, part of the Greater Kruger Park, and is renowned for its world-class game viewing. The camp has been designed to operate in an eco-friendly manner, and reflects the traditional African style - simple, yet comfortable, with just the right degree of rustic. Accommodation ranges from reed and thatched huts for couples and families, to the slightly more luxurious Eco Hut, plus a secluded treehouse a short distance from camp if you feel like a sleep-out. The extra feel-good factor of being environmentally responsible is what makes this camp so special.

Property details

The property

The main area consists of a traditional Shangaan-style thatched open-sided bar and boma. A bush bar on a raised wooden deck overlooks the waterhole nearby, where wildlife is often spotted. Dinners under the stars in the outside boma are special occasions. Umlani's curio shop is well stocked with local artwork and souvenirs. At the edge of the camp, the freeform swimming pool is a favourite spot during hot summer days, with hammocks and shady trees giving an oasis-like feel.

The rooms

Traditional Shangaan-style reed and thatch huts offer rustic off-grid comfort. Each is en-suite, with an outdoor bush shower and the romance of oil lamps in the evenings. Four doubles, and four larger family units with a double bed and two single beds, cater for couples and families. The more luxurious Eco Hut - a thatched rondavel built to feel cool in summer and warm in winter - offers couples a bit of pampering, while retaining the authentic local style.

Activities

Early morning and late afternoon game drives within this private reserve will almost certainly provide some exciting encounters with the wildlife, and this region supports a thriving predator population and a diversity of general game. Keen birdwatchers will find plenty to spot - in this region, around 350 species can be found. For guests keen to stretch their legs and experience the bush on foot, guided walks offer the chance to get even closer to nature.
