This charming Victorian guesthouse on the upper slopes of the suburb of Tamboerskloof, set against the backdrop of Table Mountain, has glorious views across the Cape Town city bowl. The exterior is tranquil, its original features restored to perfection; the interiors are pleasingly modern, with seven elegant rooms and comfortable guest areas. Situated within tranquil courtyard gardens, Walden House is a wonderful choice for a relaxing stay in a quiet corner of the city, and if you feel like some night-life buzz, you're just a short walk from popular Kloof Street, with its great restaurants, lively bars and fabulous shops.

The property

Behind its striking Victorian exterior, Walden House's interiors are sleek and contemporary. You'll notice the light, uncluttered feel when you enter the two guest lounges and dining room. The decor is understated, with earthy tones complementing the warmth of wooden floors, original sash windows, vintage chandeliers and Victorian fireplaces. Breakfast is served downstairs in the cosy dining room, or outside on the patio beside the freshwater swimming pool.

The rooms

Seven elegant en-suite rooms are individually styled, their original features combining beautifully with the slick, modern decor. Four rooms on the ground floor have direct access to the courtyard gardens, and three are upstairs. The honeymoon suite epitomises romance, with its open fireplace, deep Victorian bathtub and separate shower, access to the first-floor balcony and wonderful mountain views. Each room also has a TV, wi-fi, air conditioning and a minibar. The perfect place to relax your weary body!

Activities

This prime location at on the mountainside in trendy Tamboerskloof offers easy access to the lively restaurants, coffee shops and popular local hang-outs just a short walk away. Top tourist attractions are also right on your doorstep, including the Table Mountain cableway, the bustling harbour and the V&A Waterfront. City tours can be booked from the guesthouse. Spectacular beaches and famous Cape winelands are within easy driving distance, and outdoor enthusiasts have an almost unlimited choice of exciting adventure activities.
