About Walkers Bush Villa

Experience exclusivity on a grand scale in the wilds of the Timbavati
The Timbavati (known for its rare white lions) is surely one of South Africa's most well-known and best-loved private game reserves. With unfenced boundaries linking it to neighbouring Kruger National Park and Thornybush Reserve, it provides some of the best game viewing in the country. Walkers Bush Villa is the latest addition to the reserve's 15 or so lodges – and it's possibly the smartest. Despite its proximity to the main gate, there's plenty of game around, including the Big Five. But really, it's the standard of luxury that sets this villa apart. This could be safari at its finest...

Property details

The property

The villa oozes charm and good taste. There's an abundance of space – a lengthy pool greets your arrival; the wide terrace has a beautiful wooden dining table and fireplace, and loads of outdoor seating. Indoors, the lounge is a triumph of fine art and emotive photographs, Persian carpets, and plush sofas. There's a second, smaller TV lounge, and a crystal-and-bone-china dining room fit for royalty. Outside, the open-air boma is used for meals round the fire under the stars.

The rooms

One master bedroom plus three other doubles can be configured to accommodate a maximum of 10 guests. The rooms, large enough to house several large beasts aboard Noah's ark, are gorgeously decorated. They're light and airy, air-conditioned throughout, with beautiful furniture – deeply comfortable four-poster beds draped with mosquito nets, and superb en-suite bathrooms complete with local, organic body-care products. The master bedroom has both indoor and outdoor bathrooms as well as a sleep-out room accessible from the patio.

Activities

Your private guide is happy to create a schedule to suit your needs (though don't be tempted to sleep in, lest you miss some of the action and succumb to the heat). Game drives will last as long as you like and usually yield some great wildlife sightings – feel free to order a packed picnic and explore for the whole day. Lion, leopard, elephant and buffalo are regularly seen, along with a cornucopia of other animals.
