About Watamu Tree House

One-of-a-kind treehouse retreat on Kenya’s lovely Watamu Beach.
Watamu Treehouse is a small family-run hotel and yoga retreat set among the dense coastal forests along a pristine stretch of Watamu Beach, south of Malindi. It must rate as one of Kenya’s most unusual hotels, with two towering wings rising from the forest floor, linked by flowing ramps and spiral stairways, and a beautiful organic feel throughout. Accommodation consists of seven unique bedrooms and a rooftop star bed, and can be booked on a self-catering or full-board basis. This enchanting hotel looks like a fairy-tale castle – a magical spot to relax and reconnect with nature.

Property details

The property

White combines with blues and greens in the two towers that rise above the forest canopy on either side of a beautiful free form swimming pool. Stairways spiral up the outer walls, leading into the cosy living areas and relaxation decks on each level. North Tower has a fully equipped kitchen, a comfortable shared living area, and a fabulous rooftop lounge and yoga studio. South Tower's star attraction is its ground-to-top-floor wall of shimmering turquoise and emerald glass.

The rooms

North Tower has three double en-suite bedrooms, each a private balcony, and a romantic star bed up on the rooftop terrace. South Tower has four double rooms with plenty of space for an extra bed, en-suite bathrooms, private dining areas, and balconies overlooking the forest and ocean. Each room has an entirely unique design, with flowing curved walls inlaid with glass mosaics, quirky hand-made wooden furniture, and dreamy ocean-inspired tones creating a tranquil feel high above the forest canopy.

Activities

The hotel overlooks an endless stretch of golden sand, perfect for long walks, with untouched snorkelling and swimming spots along the way. Take a romantic sunset cruise on an Arab dhow, and visit nearby Watamu village to watch a traditional dance display. Kite-surfing, canoeing, scuba diving and deep-sea fishing can be arranged at the larger resorts further along the beach, or you could simply relax beside the pool after a rooftop yoga session with an expert trainer.
