About Wayo Walking Camp

Wildlife round every corner in a private zone of the Serengeti - this is fly camping.
As the setting for some of the most iconic safaris in Africa, the Serengeti is a world all of its own. Dotted with gangly acacia trees and endless golden grass, what awaits are days spent exploring this wildlife-rich spot by foot and game drive. Set up in a private wilderness zone, your unfussy fly camp makes a welcome home-away-from home, and all with the promise of total seclusion. Begin your morning with coffee on a kopje as the sun rises over the plains and the scene before you comes to life. After a day of spotting lions lazing in the shade and grazing zebra, return to camp for a hearty meal by the fire.

Property details

The property

Set up in a private area of the Serengeti, the camp has six tents and a shared tented area. Inside the central tent, you'll find a bar cabinet and lounge area with cushioned benches and bean bags. Enjoy three-course meals under the stars or in the cosy mess tent if the weather plays up. Sip on sundowners or steaming hot drinks by the fire as you exchange memories from the day.

The rooms

Split into two groups, the six domed canvas tents come with thick, foam double or twin beds covered in crisp linens and blankets. Your private bathroom is found just outside the tent, and has a compost toilet and hot bush-bucket shower (very welcome after a day of exploring). Simple but functional, your tent also includes woven laundry baskets, rustic side tables and safari-style lamps.

Activities

The Serengeti conjures up images of wide-open plains teeming with wildlife and with your personal guide on hand, this iconic place is at your fingertips. On game drives and walking safaris, spot herds of wildebeest, zebra and Thomson's gazelle as they canter across the grass. Scan the landscape for safari staples like giraffe, elephant, big cats and the endangered black rhino! Plus, listen for the snort of hippo from a nearby waterhole. Hike up one of the many rocky outcrops and enjoy a picnic overlooking the sun-kissed plains.
