About Wolwedans Mountain View Suite

Step into nature's art gallery, with fine grasses, barren mountains and endless rosy sands
Namibia is highly regarded for its otherworldly landscapes, and nowhere is its beauty more fully on display than in the NamibRand Nature Reserve, near Sossusvlei. Here, the wispy yellow grasses, towering red-sand dunes and barren mountains make you feel like you've stepped into a work of art. Then an oryx enters the scene and you're reminded that this is a living desert. Come to Wolwedans Mountain View Suite for authentic peace and quiet, access to the glorious desert-scapes, and ultimate privacy. Located a short walk from Desert Lodge, the one-bedroom suite is entirely secluded; it’s just you, your private guide, chef, butler – and those views.

Property details

The property

The pagoda-like suite is entirely self-contained, with a charming decor of earthy tones and natural but sophisticated style. To one side is a sunny deck with a plunge pool; on the other, a shaded patio has star-gazing beds. The spacious lounge has huge leather armchairs and sofas, and canvas walls that roll away to reveal uninterrupted views. There's a fully stocked bar, and a modern open-plan kitchen staffed by your private chef, whose creations never disappoint.

The rooms

The bedroom sits at one end of the suite, with roll-away canvas sides that, when up, emulate picture frames. Beneath your feet, warm wooden floors extend seamlessly to the deck. A King-size bed sits at the room's centre, draped with mosquito netting at night. There are a few comfortable chairs and benches, and an en-suite bathroom with classic brass fittings and a movie-star tub with storybook views.

Activities

Although Wolwedans is just 80 kilometres from Sossusvlei's iconic (and busy!) red dunes, the focus here is on immersing yourself in this tranquil desert spot. There's plenty to keep you busy close to camp: scenic drives with a surprising diversity of wildlife (oryx, springbok, jackal, steenbok, birds, and reptiles); guided walks to find the little-seen characters and debate the cause of the desert's fairy circles (which puzzle even scientists); horse-riding; and for a real treat – a hot-air balloon ride.

What you'll love

What you'll love

Picture the scene: wide, wide spaces to the horizon; moody, shadowed mountains; the occasional passing creature; and a gorgeous sunset painting a rosy glow. The palette of the scenery here is unique, and quite simply mesmerising. You can tell we love this area!

Insiders Tip

Night skies don't get clearer or more full of stars than in these parts (it’s actually Africa’s only Dark Sky Reserve) so make sure to grab a telescope and take a look.
Something to think about

Something to think about

In the desert, temperatures can soar. The plunge pool on the deck is the most welcome feature you'll see on your return from a walk.
