With an eclectic mix of leather chairs and antique trunks, zebra skins and Persian rugs, the thatched main area is cosy, comfortable and utterly charming. Raised on a grassy knoll for a bit of elevation, the open sides make the most of the view over the floodplain and down to the riverbed, and a siesta spent here is guaranteed to produce some excellent sightings. There’s a dining room next door, but meals are usually served under the Milky Way in true explorer style. And did we mention there’s an old-school pizza oven under the trees, guaranteeing a spot of Italian flair in the heart of the bush!
Two of the four tents are on the eastern side of camp with views of the sprawling plains, whilst two on the western side overlook the pretty natural springs. We can’t choose a favourite but you definitely won’t be disappointed! The rooms themselves have high thatched ceilings, four poster or two queen size beds and wonderful open-air bathrooms with not only showers with a view, but loos too. Each also has a private sitting area and a deliciously cool plunge pool.
Think Zambia, think walking safari, think Zungulila… The iconic walking safaris are on offer twice a day, early in the morning and in the afternoon, but we recommend rising with the birds and setting out on foot whilst the air is still cool. There's also the option of walking between the other bush camps in the area which is an excellent way to discover the area. In the afternoon, hop in an open Landrover and keep your eyes peeled for leopard as the sun goes down.
