What to do in Argentine Patagonia

In this striking winterscape, where glaciers and snowy peaks dominate the skyline, mirrored by the pristine lakes below, you'll want to do nothing but explore. In every corner of the region, there are picturesque hikes and challenging ice treks, tranquil kayaking excursions and horseback rides. Right at the 'End of the World' aka, Tierra del Fuego, set sail along the Beagle Channel where you'll spy penguin colonies, flocks of seabirds and spouting whales.

Drink tea with an Argentinian alpine view

Bariloche is famous for its teahouse, studded through town like little gems and often overlooking the glittering water. Find a cozy corner where you can warm up with a cup of tea and enjoy a slice of cake.

Go horseback riding at Estancia la Estela

Starting from La Estela stable, the tour will take you towards the point of the Viedma lake and the beginning of La Leona river. After riding these shores, you will eventually arrive at the Guanaco river. During this journey you will ride with world famous views of this place, the Fitz Roy and Torre Peaks together. You will also learn a little about about the flora and fauna of this southern Patagonian region. Depending on the season, you may be able to sample wild calafate's berries. 7,30 hs. Visit Laguna Esmeralda in Tierra Del Fuego

Clear glacial water pools in the Laguna Esmeralda. Because of its natural splendour and tranquility, this is a favourite spot of those visiting Tierra del Fuego. The hike around the lagoon is moderate in difficulty and unmatched in scenery. You'll find indigenous trees and rich vegetation that are the trademark of Patagonian forests. Not to be missed!

Go kayaking or rafting on the La Leona River

You will be pick up by your hotel and transferred through the famous route 40 to go to Luz Divina, where we start our adventure. After putting on all the special gear we start to row through the Río La Leona. The total length to row is 14 km. At half of the way we stop and left the kayaks to trek around 2 hours on Mountain Los Hornos. During the trek, we observe fossils and parts of an old forest petrified. After having lunch we go back to the kayaks and row the rest of the trip to Turbio stream, where we end the adventure.

Canoe across Patagonian lakes in Ushuaia

This picturesque trail is a 2.1km loop, offering you a moderately challenging hike along the Lapataia River and taking you to the photogenic Acigami Lake. Budget about 40 minutes to complete the trail, but there's no rush. Give yourself the time to stop along the way, admire the spectacular views, and enjoy the tranquility of nature.

Visit picturesque Ensenada Bay in Tierra Del Fuego

The coastal path at Ensenada Bay stretches for around the bay with panoramic views across Beagle Channel to the majestic mountains of Chile beyond. While exploring Tierra del Fuego, don't miss the opportunity to stop here and snap a few photos of the postcard views. You needn't hike the whole path to find rewarding views. Walk along the coastal path or take a hike at nearby Acigami Lake for a change of scenery. Go up Cerro Frías in a 4x4 in El Calafate

Cerro Frías offers a captivating half-day tour, showcasing panoramic views of the Andes Mountains, Lago Argentino, Mount Fitz Roy, and Torres del Paine. Located near El Calafate, this hill provides unique perspectives of Torres del Paine, Fitz Roy, Lake Argentino, the Magallanes and Avellaneda Peninsulas, given its distinct position outside the Andes range. Your journey begins with a pick-up from your El Calafate hotel, followed by a 25 km drive to Estancia Alice. There, you'll embark on a 4x4 adventure up Cerro Frías. As you ascend, marvel at the sprawling vistas of the Centinela River Valley and Torres del Paine. The route takes you to Cerro Frías' summit, where you might spot cows, guanacos, hares, and wild ponies. Post tour, return to the base for lunch or afternoon snacks. Leisure time is available at the ranch's barbecue area for exploration. The day concludes with a return drive to El Calafate, wrapping up an adventurous outing just a short distance from the city.

Spy aquatic birds from the Paseo de la Isla trail

Despite its brevity, this short hike yields high rewards. To maximise your time in the Tierra del Fuego, wander on the Paseo de la Isla trail. You will find shore views of both the Ovando River and the Lapataia River. This trail will also give you a great opportunity to spot Patagonian aquatic birds. While you're visiting the Tierra del Fuego, pair this hike with a walk along the coastal path or a visit to Acigami Lake.
