What to do in St Tropez and the Gulf
Saint-Tropez is smaller than its reputation, and all the better for it. Walk the harbour at breakfast, when the superyacht crews are still hosing down the decks, then wander the pastel-washed lanes of the old town and the Place des Lices market (Tuesdays and Saturdays, if you're counting). Across the Gulf, Port Grimaud is a miniature Venice of canals, fishermen's houses and little electric boats. For the bigger picture, see the coast by helicopter, sip champagne on a sunset yacht cruise, or take a sports car along the corniche roads with the roof down. One warning: in August, the single road into town moves at roughly the pace of a pétanque ball. Arrive by boat. You'll look the part.
