It’s been almost four years since we at Timbuktu started to empower people like you to experience the far-flung corners of Africa, your way. Every day, travellers design their dream safaris on Timbuktu from wild and wonderful journeys across the continent (and even an epic 60-day expedition!) to walking safaris in Zambia and island hopping adventures in Mozambique.
Timbuktu has always been unprecedented in the world of safari planning and today we are excited to announce ‘Routes’, a new feature that will make designing your dream trip easier than you ever thought possible.
What are ‘Routes’, we hear you cry?
‘Routes’ are a selection of journeys, handpicked by our travel experts, that are our favourite ways to explore Africa. Each one is a group of places and countries that we believe work well together, with a suggested number of nights to spend in each one.
You might notice, however, that there’s something missing: where to stay. That’s because we want to give you complete control over your trip and the power to choose your lodges and hotels according to your style and budget.
Essentially ‘Routes’ are a collection of customisable templates that act as a blank canvas for you to design the safari that you really want.

Pick a route
So far, we have 89 routes covering 22 countries across Africa, so there really is something to suit everyone. Explore our recommended routes by place, experience and even when you want to travel to find your perfect route.
Customise your chosen route by changing the number of nights at each stage, and add as many different destinations or experiences as you like, from beach breaks to gorilla treks. With our experts on hand, we won’t let you do anything (too) crazy!
