About Adigar's Manor

A restored manor house, packed to the rafters with gorgeous antiques and rich history.
Set 20 minutes outside the city and surrounded by thick jungle, Adigar's Manor is in fact a real old manor house and carries with it the style and grace of times past. Dating from 1804, the main building is very impressive (think whitewashed verandas and sweeping arches) and inside, the beautiful restoration is immediately apparent. It's the region's first ever boutique hotel and antiques and beautiful fabrics abound. Combine the stylish interiors with the exotic gardens and shady infinity pool and you've got yourself a rather lovely spot to retreat to after a day of exploring.

Property details

The property

Surrounded by lush jungle and forested hills, the magic of Adigar's Manor is immediately apparent. There are six acres of lush gardens to explore, frequented by multicoloured parrots and butterflies, and a cooling infinity pool has been cleverly built into the hillside to maximise the views of the rice paddies below. Be sure to sample the traditional cuisine (it's second to none!), particularly if you can snag a table on the outside terrace.

The rooms

Each of the nine rooms has its own unique personality. Draped in hand-woven silks and each named for butterflies that thrive in Sri Lanka, the five Deluxe rooms have four-poster beds and garden views, and the Pioneer even comes with its own veranda. For extra va-va-voom, choose one of four Ultra rooms, complete with clawfoot bath tubs, private dining, your very own butler and access to a veranda with a selection of lounge-worthy sofas.

Activities

Take day trips to the city to experience the culture of Kandy and stroll through the Botanical Peradeniya Gardens, learn at the Ceylon Tea Museum, or take a tour of the British Garrison Cemetery. Spiritually-minded visitors will find plenty of temples to explore, and those looking to get up close with wildlife should make the trip to the Udawattakelle Sanctuary. We'd also forgive anyone who decided to take a day or two to relax around the pool, breaking only to enjoy a private yoga session or a massage.

The house doesn't cater for under 12s so whilst it's not suitable for young families, it's perfect for honeymooners.
