At the heart of the camp, a large canvas tent shelters a living-cum-dining room. This inviting area has comfortable chairs just meant for a midday siesta, and a large table where meals are shared. The space is sprinkled with arrows, gourds and other objects made by the camp staff. The camp is plain and comfortable but sans excess, although the staff are always devising creative ways to spoil you in the bush.
Meru-style canvas tents on the ground are fitted with a sealed groundsheet and fold-away flaps. Slip off your shoes and massage your soles on the canvas-covered soft-sand floor (this is just one of the ways the camp's unique character seeps into its details). The double bed has a comfortable mattress and good linens; the bathroom has a flush toilet, a basin and a heated bucket shower. The camp may seem simple, but for those in the know it's a jewel.
Bushman Plains offers numerous ways to experience the wilderness. Besides the knowledge you'll gain on bush walks, there's the opportunity to approach big game on foot – a heart-thumping experience. Game drives are the best way to follow the well-known wild dog packs. Lion, elephant and buffalo are also common, as is the rare sable antelope. Frankly, this sector of the Delta offers phenomenal game and bird viewing, and getting a Bushman's take on it all is an exceptional drawcard.
