Camp Shawu is named after a magnificent African elephant bull who roamed the valley for sixty years and had the longest tusks ever recorded in South Africa. This adventure camp is situated in a 15000 hectare private concession of the world-renowned Kruger National Park and offers a great chance of spotting the Big Five and much more. It offers guests a range of activities and elegant Kruger National Park accommodation in comfortable suites on the edge of a dam. Guests will return restored and rejuvenated after absorbing the magical energy and spiritual presence of the bush.

The property

Camp Shawu's front deck is right at the edge of a watering hole where big game viewing, and prolific birdlife, is guaranteed at any time of the day. The main lodge has a charming lounge, a restaurant, and a plunge pool. Meals are served in the indoor dining area in cold weather or at the outdoor dining area on the deck in warmer weather. Planked walkways link the tented suites.

The rooms

Camp Shawu accommodates guests in 5 spacious tented suites with views over a dam that attracts lots of wildlife. The suites have authentic buffalo dung walls with colonial inspired interiors. They are equipped with a romantic bathtub, a sitting area facing an open fireplace, ceiling fans and an outside shower. A screen separates the bathroom from the bedroom section in Victorian style. A large verandah with reclining chairs and an umbrella provides the perfect spot to watch the game.

Activities

Enjoy amazing game viewing in the reserve and along the riverbanks, with excellent guides. Head off on a bush walk with armed rangers. Birdwatching is great at any time of the day. You can also lounge by the camp's plunge pool with a book or a pair of binoculars or chill on your private deck, and enjoy the surroundings. Or indulge in a private spa treatment in your bedroom. Golfers can play at the 9-hole unfenced golf course in Kruger.
