In its sheltered valleys, there are trees rarely seen anywhere else in the Kruger including luscious Cape chestnuts, mountain seringa and lavender fever-berries, while the grasslands are peppered with granite kopjes, popular amongst klipspringer, baboon and rhino & leopard. The south has exceptional numbers of wildlife, attracted by its diverse landscapes and rivers and is particularly famed for its big cat sightings.

What to do in Southern Kruger

This iconic stretch of wilderness stands framed by the Crocodile and Sabie Rivers, with the Lebombo Mountains rising dramatically to the east. Granite kopjes dot the grasslands, offering perfect vantage points for klipspringers and baboons while providing secretive hideouts for leopards and rhinos. The abundance of water attracts extraordinary concentrations of wildlife, particularly the big cats that have made this section of the park legendary. Game drives explore diverse terrain from riverine thickets to open plains while walking safaris bring intimate encounters with the smaller wonders of the bush. Birders discover endless species in this rich landscape, where each habitat adds new entries to their spotting lists.
