Constructed from local timber with a thatched roof and open sides, the main area sits on stilts with sweeping views across the lagoon. The lounge has plenty of comfortable seating and there is a well-curated library, while the dining room boasts a long table beneath rustic chandeliers. A spacious deck, offering open-air seating under enormous leadwood trees, stretches toward a plunge pool and a sala with a day bed. A circular fire-deck extends over the water, for atmospheric outdoor evenings. There is also another larger pool and sundeck within the camp's grounds.
Twelve canvas, Meru-style tents line the edge of the lagoon, each with fabulous views. Raised on stilts with large verandas and thatch roofs, the tents are relatively closely spaced, but reed partitions assist with privacy. Double or twin beds are offered, with ensuite bathrooms including showers and flush toilets. Rooms have a classic feel with leather headboards, a suede ottoman and oriental rugs; simple but comfortable, with fans for summers and hot water bottles for chilly winter nights.
Moremi Reserve is a dynamic habitat with varied ecosystems. Game drives traverse dense woodlands and open savannah, while boat trips explore narrow waterways and broad lagoons. All of the Big Five are around, although the aquatic and avian wildlife can keep you endlessly enthralled. As it forms part of Moremi, Xakanaxa shares traversing rights with self-drive vehicles, so sightings are not exclusive, though rarely crowded. Game-drive vehicles accommodate six to nine guests.
Camp Xakanaxa is owned by Desert & Delta Safaris which prioritises community welfare, conservation, and sustainable tourism. They support local communities through education and employment initiatives while providing advanced healthcare for staff. Environmental responsibility is paramount, with efforts in wildlife conservation, sustainable tourism, and gender equality. Their commitment to staff wellness fosters a supportive work environment, embodying a holistic approach to safari operations.
