About Casa Caiman Private Villa

A remote refuge on the Paraguay River, where jaguars swim past your breakfast table.
A family-run, six-room exclusive retreat, Villa Baiazinha sits in splendid isolation on the banks of the Paraguay River. You are, quite literally, the only tourists for miles around - and the only ones with exclusive access to the waters around the Taiamã Ecological Reserve, one of Brazil's most protected and remote wildlife sanctuaries. Here, you're not just visiting the Pantanal – you're living it, with jaguars regularly spotted swimming in front of the lodge and capybaras treating the riverbank like their personal beach club. The five-hour journey from Cuiabá isn't an easy undertaking, but for those who understand that sometimes the best experiences require serious commitment to reach them, it's worth every minute...

Property details

The property

Baiazinha is all about providing crowd-free access to the pristine waterways of the Paraguay River, and with its own private jetty and specialised boats, it makes it easier than ever to enjoy the surroundings, free of other visitors. After a day exploring, return to the lodge for a dip in the pool, or settle into the hammock-filled lounge - it's right on the river and perfect for a spot of wildlife spotting as you sway. In the evening, head to the restaurant for a traditional - and hearty - Pantanal meal.

The rooms

The six simply-furnished but comfortable rooms are all about function over form. You'll find everything you need for your stay, including air con (essential in the Pantanal!), hot showers, mini-fridges, and pretty but simple furnishings. The real luxury here is falling asleep to the sounds of the Pantanal and waking up to capybaras grazing outside your window.

Activities

Every day at Baiazinha revolves around the river. You'll typically do several boat trips during your stay, exploring the pristine waterways and looking for jaguars. The experienced guides seem to have a sixth sense when it comes to knowing where the cats are and guests have even been known to see six or seven jaguars up close! Between boating excursions, explore the hiking trails, try your hand at a spot of fishing, or relax poolside while the birds provide constant entertainment overhead.

What you'll love

What you'll love

Having the Paraguay River entirely to yourself. Watch jaguars swimming in the water and resting on the shoreline, all in blissful peace and quiet.

Insiders Tip

The lodge's signature dish is mojica, a fish broth with cassava that chef Isaias calls "the pride of the kitchen" - and it's definitely worth sampling at least once!
Something to think about

Something to think about

Baiazinha isn't pretending to be a luxury resort (and that's precisely what makes it so special). Also bear in mind that there is limited WiFi.
