About Chamba Camp Thiksey

Glamping with a capital G in this out-of-this-world tented camp in the Himalayas.
Chamba Camp Thiksey is one of those rare offerings that is unique and utterly magical. Set high in the mountains of the Himalayas, it's one of the first mobile camps in India and the idea is to take you far off-the-beaten track yet still provide luxury of the highest standard. And that luxury comes in the form of sumptuous tents and four-poster beds, gourmet meals in alfresco settings, sun terraces, and impeccable service. Add to all that a selection of first-rate Himalayan adventures and this is a stay with all the trimmings (and a little different to a soggy tent in the Peak District!).

Property details

The property

The luxury tents will exceed your wildest dreams as they transport you back to the days of the British Raj, and the beautiful structures contrast perfectly with the wild and rugged scenery that surrounds. When you're not busy exploring (more on that below), try your hand at archery and croquet in the camp grounds, or explore the peaceful waterways that have carved their paths nearby. In the evenings, swap stories of the day's adventures in the dining tent or over a warming outdoor fire.

The rooms

There are 14 opulent tents to choose from, each as exquisite as the next, and with all expected modern touches, like air-conditioning and ensuite bathrooms with hot showers, running water and beautiful toiletries. Beds are dressed in crisp linens and big enough for an entire herd of yak, and there's even a pillow menu for added bedtime bliss. Outside, a delightful private veranda offers striking views of the Stok Mountains and your private butler will happily see to a G&T or a warming cup of chai when the need arises.

Activities

There's no shortage of things to do here and the camp is always more than happy to arrange trips and special outings. Live like the Indian royals of old and watch a game of polo, that most regal of sports; raft along the Indus river; take a picnic in the pretty camp gardens, or even visit one of many picturesque monasteries. You'll appreciate the relaxing calm of camp after your busy days!

Leave time for a trip to Thiksey Monastery. Climb through the dewy air to listen to the monks chant their morning prayers, or travel with a private guide to learn the full and spectacular history.

Something to think about

Like many spots in the area, Chamba Camp Thiksey is only open from May until October. We think the limited chance to stay just makes it more special, but book quickly.
