Denis Island Lodge

The main lodge building is open-air with an angulated high-pitched roof and exposed rafters. The multi-level space houses the restaurant, bar and lounge area, leading onto a beautiful wooden deck overlooking the ocean with a circular swimming pool. The decor is light and modern. White cushioned couches and cane patio furniture with patterned pillows are complimented with stone, wood and shell - creating a homely but luxurious atmosphere. The swimming pool area was undergoing maintenance at the time of writing this, check if it's back in operation before you go.

The 25 luxury beachfront cottages range from 90m2 to 350m2 in size. They’re all decorated in the same breezy colonial style with modern finishes. We love the exposed rafters and the extensive outdoor relaxation areas with day beds, salas, alfresco showers and swimming pools (pool only in the beach villas). All the cottages are on the beach with private sun loungers on their stretch of sand. Accommodation options are for two people but there are family cottage options.

Because this is a deserted paradise, the lodge has put immense effort into the conservation of their small slice of land. Go on a tour of the island with one of the researchers, where you’ll be introduced to the threatened-bird-reintroduction programme, the island farm and local tortoises. Snorkel offshore in the surrounding lagoon or head out on a scuba dive further afield. Some of the species to be seen are parrotfish, turtles, rays and whale sharks. The fishing is exceptional in this garden of eden, trips can be arranged at reception. Each villa has bicycles so you can explore the island and its tranquil beaches by foot or by bicycle. Spa treatments are also available to set the tone for your relaxing holiday.
