The definition of luxury in the southern Okavango Delta, Dulini Daunara’s five tented suites are crisp, calm and utterly beautiful. Perched on the banks of a private lagoon that attracts hundreds of animals throughout the year, wildlife-watching from your deck can be just as good as heading out on a game drive – think elephant wandering past and lions roaring as you slumber. But venture out you should, for this is one of the world’s great wildlife destinations. Explore on guided game drives and walking safaris, or take to the water on a traditional mokoro trip. Whatever you choose, Daunara is all about the magic of slowing down, reconnecting and just… being.

Inspired by the vast open spaces of the Delta, Daunara’s main areas are spacious and inviting. A living area, draped in canvas and overlooking the lagoon, is the perfect space to unwind between activities, the ever-present water equally soothing as exciting, depending on what comes to visit… There’s also a swimming pool and a traditional fenced boma area where dinner is often served under the stars.
There are only five elegant suites, all positioned around the lagoon. Sleek and modern on the outside, they are rooted in African tradition with swathes of canvas and plenty of beautiful, dark wood furniture inside. All have private decks, large bathtubs overlooking the wilderness outside and enormous King-size beds under mosquito nets. The family villa, a two-bedroomed canvas structure, is connected via a shared living area with dining table and perfect for families travelling with older children or friends.
Days here flex around you and the water levels. Glide through papyrus channels by mokoro, cast a line off the floating deck (catch-and-release, naturally), or read tracks in the sand on foot with your guide. Game drives run morning and, unusually for the Delta, after dark too. Back on dry land, tour the camp's own farm or meet the orphaned elephants at nearby Elephant Havens. Wild dogs are a real possibility here, and the hippos in the lagoon need no invitation.
Being on a private concession, so night drives are on the menu here (a rarity in Botswana). Long after the day is done, that's when leopards go on the prowl and the shy nocturnal creatures come out to play.
Go further afield and take a helicopter to the Tsodilo Hills, a UNESCO site scattered with thousands of ancient San rock paintings and one of the oldest art sites on the planet.
The camp only has five suites and a maximum of 12 guests so if you’re only booking one room, be prepared to share the intimate space with other guests.
