Let’s talk adventure
Looking for something that you won’t find in the guidebooks? Then this spectacular three-night/four-day trek through the remote wilderness of northern Tanzania is the trip for you. Start your expedition at Empakaai Crater, Ngorongoro’s forgotten little sister, before journeying through the cracks and crevices of the Great Rift Valley, to centuries-old Lake Natron. This isn’t the Africa of game drives and silver service - this is the Africa of tradition, adventure and haunting beauty that brings a whole new meaning to ‘off the beaten track.

Property details

The property

Your first night will be in a modest fly-camp in the heart of the Rift Valley. Expect simple tents with comfy mattresses, plenty of fresh water and fabulous meals, served by a team of very smiley chefs. At Lake Natron Camp, the walk-in tents are laid out under the shade of trees and covered by a large mesh shade - a very welcome sight in the heat of the day! Each has a private veranda for long evening sundowners and ensuite bathrooms with super eco-friendly compost toilets. There’s also a beautiful mess tent and of course, the campfire, where every evening should be spent in our opinion!

Activities

Lace up your hiking boots and let the walking begin! A medium-level of fitness is required for this trip and days one and two are the most strenuous, but there are opportunities for a little R&R too – think cooling swims in gin-clear rock pools and sundowners high in the clouds. Other highlights include morning strolls around Lake Natron, visits to the local villages and even a hike to the top of Ol Donyo Lengai, the Maasai ‘Mountain of God’, if you’re feeling up to it.
