Escape Mahe to your own private island, a ten minute boat ride from Victoria. Here time stands still as you “tap out” from the noise of everyday life and tune into the languid ebb and flow of an understated Seychellois gem. The ten private villas have been carefully crafted by architect Tony Joseph to offer perennial luxury, reflective of the region. Locally owned by Sunil Shah and his father Anant Jivan-Shah, the family spent five years creating the resort of their dreams. And magical indeed it is. Even the Rolling Stones’ Ronnie Wood has been an enchanted guest. Their work was not without reward. The island resort recently won the 2016 World Travel Award for Seychelles' Leading Luxury Hotel Villa for the third year.

The property

The resort’s public areas reflect the upmarket Creole design of the villas. There’s one restaurant on the island, Bounty restaurant and the cuisine is varied enough that you shouldn’t need to repeat any meals in a week’s stay. It offers international cuisine and daily specials (depending on the catch of the day) as well as themed evenings. The restaurant overlooks the large communal infinity swimming pool and is flanked by the Castaway Bar. Set back from the main area is Serena Spa, a zen retreat with three treatment rooms, each with its own private steam room, shower and terrace.

The rooms

The award-winning private villas are clean, spacious and understated. They offer all the luxury you're looking for, from an infinity swimming pool, private deck with sun loungers and gazebo, private beach access (not all villas), a lounge with satellite TV and a DVD player, dining area and private bathroom. The villa designs stick to traditional Creole architecture and don’t detract from the beauty of the island. Olde worlde Seychelles champions the design, with hand selected antique furniture, wooden floors and paneling, complimented by white linens, curtains and soft furnishings.

Activities

Step off your private beach and submerge yourself in the warm waters of Sainte Anne Marine National Park. Snorkelling offers fantastic sightings of impressive marine life such as rays. Grab kayaking equipment from the Watersports Centre and explore the shore line or head on over to Moyenne Island, a nature sanctuary. Scuba diving and deep sea fishing adventures can be arranged. So too can boat trips to explore the neighbouring islands.
