About Forte Kochi

Bold and bright, the historic Fort fits right into Cochin - and it's close to everything.
Down a tree-lined street, the lemon-yellow walls of Forte Kochi definitely draw the eye. Once a grand Jewish home, the hotel is a blend of Portuguese, Dutch and British styles. Bright hallways dotted with flower arrangements lead to 27 spacious rooms decked out in antique furnishings. Thanks to its location, Forte Kochi is close to just about everything. Stroll down the Beach Walkway or soak up the city's art scene before returning for a dip in the pool and a bite of seafood to the strum of local music.

The property

Forte Kochin takes its sunny reputation seriously with a bright, yellow courtyard complete with matching loungers around the inviting pool. The Jetty restaurant has an array of local favourites as well as European and special seafood dishes. The dining area has a classic feel to it with antique wicker chairs and black-and-white photos on the walls. Breakfast by the pool is also highly recommended! The central lounge is decked out with ornate mirrors and you can grab a book from the library to enjoy with a coffee.

The rooms

The rooms are a mix of styles with colourful tiled floors, wicker sofas and heavy wooden shutters. In shades of orange and green, the Classic rooms look out over the pool and come with a queen-size bed; Imperial rooms and the Sovereign room have a king bed, rollaway bed (for 2 extra adults) and sitting area. Each room comes with an en-suite bathroom in patterned tiles, air con, minibar and cushy window seat. The Sovereign room is the most spacious and has a burnished metal tub and double basins.

Activities

In the seaside city of Cochi, there are as many things to do as there are fishermen. Take in the seaside views on Mahatma Gandhi Beach, tap into the city's creative side at the URU Art Harbour exhibits and stroll through the Mattancherry antique market. Historic buildings are in no short supply so stop off at the Kerala Folklore Museum or visit the Santa Cruz Basilica, one of the oldest Catholic churches in India.
