Nong Yao restaurant, a thatched-roof, open-air affair, will spoil you for choice with two evening menus celebrating the delights of the local dishes, as well as international fare. Choose to eat with other guests and swap stories of your day's adventures, or enjoy a romantic dinner a deux with a candlelit dinner, or a picnic in the nearby elephant sanctuary (yes, really). Those who love a pre-dinner cocktail (we're with you) will not be disappointed by Burma Bar and its jungle views. For day-time relaxation when you're not with the elephants, head straight to the spa.
There are 15 luxury tents to choose from, all spread out along a jungle-clad pathway. Each is beautifully decorated in natural woods and carefully-chosen leather pieces, creating an opulent, modern take on 19th-century safari style. All have air conditioning, mini bars (fully - and we mean fully - stocked) and entirely fabulous views. Soak in a hand-hammered roll top tub, luxuriate in an outdoor shower and recline on your private outdoor deck. For the ultimate treat, book a deluxe tent and enjoy a private hot tub too. For larger groups, check out the two-bedroom Explorers Lodge, private retreat at the far end of the camp.
The focus here is the interaction with rescued and rehabilitated elephants in the nearby sanctuary and meeting the mahouts. Otherwise, there's a big focus on exploring the surrounding (stunning) landscapes: hiking the epic forests, visiting local hill tribes, fishing, cookery classes, and even visiting neighbouring Myanmar and Laos for an epic, three-countries-in-one-day expedition. Closer to home, there's a spa where treatments take place to a soundtrack of local birdlife, and yoga and meditation sessions can be arranged.
Head off radar and escape to nature in the spectacular hills of northern Thailand.
