About Ghoha Hills Savuti Lodge

Explore the elephant capital of the world in style
As one of the few geographically elevated areas in Botswana, Ghoha Hills Lodge takes full advantage of its sweeping views over the surrounding Savute landscape. The lodge's remote location in this popular region makes for a more exclusive overall experience. Some of the best game viewing areas on offer are about an hour's drive away, but when the Savute Marsh is showing its full colours, it's well worth travelling across the world for. Hit it at its peak and you'll see things to rival the Serengeti. And the lodge provides all the luxury and relaxation you could want when you're away from the action.

Property details

The property

The stone, wood and thatch lounge, bar and dining room fit naturally into the side of Ghoha hill. There are several stately wooden dining tables spread across the spacious room where the majority of the indulgent meals are served, but dining also takes place around the fire pit downstairs. The lounge leads on from the dining room and extends onto the outer deck and is tastefully decorated with light earthy colours. There's another lounge upstairs ensuring ample room to unwind and relax. And perched on the edge of the cliff is a stone-paved pool with sweeping views of the plains below.

The rooms

Nine luxurious doubles and two family tents are spread out along the hillside, each with private decks from which to gaze at the camp's waterhole and escarpment below. The rooms are spacious with large double beds draped with mosquito nets, and armchairs set to enjoy the panorama. The en-suite bathrooms have double basins and showers that make you feel like you're on the cliff's edge. The generous mesh windows and sliding doors create a never-ending sense of space.

Activities

Game drives, both in and around Ghoha Hills and further afield, open the door to some spectacular game sightings, especially at the Savute Marsh in the dry winter months. Guided game walks in the camp's vicinity provide an in-depth look into some of the intricacies of the bush. In between morning and afternoon activities, bird watching at the camp hide can be quite productive - elephants bathing at the waterhole also keep it interesting.

Have your guide show you a few constellations around the fire at night - this is quite simply as good as an astronomy lesson gets.

While some areas may be less accessible after the rains, it's worth visiting during the wet season (November to April) for incredible birdlife and babies.
