Gondwana, despite its modest 11,000-hectare size, incorporates grasslands, undulating valleys and indigenous fynbos, and an ever-broadening collection of species – expect the Big Five, Cape mountain zebra, cheetah and a myriad grazers. Gondwana Tented Eco Camp offers an invigorating take on the safari experience. You'll see all the species you desire, and also take part in day-to-day conservation duties, such as setting up camera traps and tracking radio-collared lions.

The property

The camp's communal area has a cosy living-room feel, with a bar and dining area (meals are served at a single large table), and lounge furnished with plumply cushioned sofas. Between outings, take a dip in the pool, and enjoy the rustic comfort of this endearingly intimate camp, with a drink (soft or not) in hand.

The rooms

From the main area, a path leads to five simple yet perfectly adequate tents. All are slightly elevated on stilts, with open-air front porches overlooking the ravine. Each room sleeps two in a queen-sized bed with high-quality linen – perfect after a long, productive day. En-suite bathrooms have a flush toilet and hot water. Best of all is is the clean simplicity, and the real sense that just a few millimetres separate you from the bush!

Activities

Book a three- or five-night conservation experience for your family or group of friends, with activities tailored for your interests – tracking lions perhaps? Shorter outings, recreational fishing and treasure hunts are great for children. Days are spent monitoring wildlife and taking part in ongoing conservation projects, interspersed with hearty meals. Evening game-monitoring drives are followed by sundowners and dinner at camp. The schedule is full but rewarding, with plenty of time for simply enjoying this beautiful wilderness.
