Kasikizi Bushcamp

The beauty of Kasikizi Bushcamp is how little of it there is. The main area is a simple, unobtrusive thatched lounge where you'll escape the sun at lunchtime, curl up with a good book, and sip on a drink before supper. This happens to be one of the most scenic and lively sections of Luambe, so keep your eyes peeled for any four-legged visitors. Most breakfasts and dinners are enjoyed out on the floodplains, expertly prepared over an open fire.

The entire camp is solar-powered and inspired by the authentic bush camps of the South Luangwa. Built like the grass structures that early explorers might have stayed in, the chalets have few mod cons and are simply furnished - although fans and mosquito nets are provided for a comfortable night's sleep. The open-air bathroom is well-equipped and provides a welcome hot shower. Each chalet opens onto a private veranda where you can enjoy quiet moments watching the wildlife comings and goings.

Walking safaris take centre stage at Kasikizi, and meander along the Luangwa River to spot massive pods of hippo, herds of elephant, and incredible birdlife. Between September and October, Southern carmine bee-eaters nest nearby, and you can learn about the Luangwa Valley's population of crested cranes and vultures. Day and nighttime game drives are also offered, offering the chance to look for packs of African painted dogs and big cats.
