About La Casona At Matetic Vineyards

A delightful casa on a working vineyard and farm in Chile's famous wine-making region.
The conditions that make Rosario Valley one of Chile's finest wine regions - gentle coastal winds and sunny, temperate days - are also a winning combination for a laidback holiday, whether you spend it hiking into the hillside or sampling as many grapes as you like. Sitting pretty in a garden of well-groomed hedges and flowers, La Casona has a rather Tuscan feel to it with butter-yellow walls and terracotta roof. The Matetic Vineyard produces some of the best organic and biodynamic wines in the country, and you may just bump into their resident alpacas on a stroll through the vines. We believe 'idyllic' is the word.

Property details

The property

The main restaurant, hexagonal Equilibrio, is almost entirely made of glass and faces the pretty lake and wooden bridge outside. Gourmet Chilean specialties are served at place settings featuring maps of the valley, whilst El Emporio offers tapas-style dishes in a more casual setting. Three-course meals made with organic ingredients are also on offer in the guests-only dining room. The lounge area has tea, coffee and drinks laid out in front of the fireplace, as well as a pool table. In a private corner of the garden, there is a lovely pool with sun loungers, four-poster day beds and a fire pit, ready for whatever weather comes your way.

The rooms

There are just 10 rooms, each named after one of Matetic's grapes varieties, and decorated in a vintage style. Each room features high ceilings, dark wood furnishings and framed pictures with floral prints. The bathrooms are old-fashioned with large, burnished mirrors, geometric tiles and spacious rainfall showers. The colour palette varies from soft greys to bold, chintzy textiles, but each bed enjoys 600-thread count linens. The rooms are kept fairly uncluttered with a desk and TV, but few added extras.

Activities

Visit the vineyard's cellar (which is cleverly shaped like a barrel) for a wine tasting - you can even request shots served in chocolate cups. The surrounding valleys are chock-full of fantastic vineyards to visit and even join in the grape stomping during harvest season. The area is also criss-crossed with scenic hiking and horseriding trails, which you can punctuate with tasty picnics of artisanal chocolate, pastries and deli meats. Or, see the picturesque valleys from the sky on a hot air balloon ride.
