About Lakshman Sagar

Tucked amidst the hilly wilderness, lake views from your private cottage are in store.
As you approach, Lakshman Sagar has the look of two cream-coloured tetris pieces in Rajasthan's Badlands. Its whimsical nature is firmly cemented in the jewel bright decor, far-reaching views and furnishings inspired by local communities - including laundry baskets in the form of tiny hammocks. Set in 32 acres of wilderness on the edge of the Todgarh-Raoli Sanctuary, you can enjoy a breakfast of local delicacies in the fields, kayak across the lake and spend an evening stargazing. Lakshman is forged by a love for nature, where peacocks add a splash of blue to the scrub and you may even spot a curious antelope outside your cottage.

Property details

The property

Lakshman Sagar has two dining areas; The Mardana, which is decked out in shades of turquoise and 'found' wooden furnishings on the patio; in candyfloss pink and purple, The Zanana has a downstairs dining room and a rooftop lounge with plenty of cushioned alcoves. This is a prime spot for sundowners! On a nearby knoll, the rock-cut pool looks like a natural spring and local musicians play alongside. Enjoy treatments in the rustic massage room, lakeside views under thatched lapas or drinks around the campfire.

The rooms

Built out of mud and stone, the 12 thatched cottages have a natural feel. Entirely open plan, the bedroom has a king size bed, mini wardrobe and rustic decor, which flows into the living room. Decked out in bright furnishings from yellow to sky blue and a bar area, the lounge opens onto your private granite plunge pool. The bathroom is also open-plan, which can take a little getting used to, and comes with a rain shower and locally-made soaps.

Activities

Off the beaten track of Rajasthan, your days are spent practicing yoga at the lake, relaxing by the pool and exploring the countryside. Personalised itineraries can include horseriding in the nearby fields, kayaking or angling for catfish, village tours and guided nature walks. Keep an eye out for the plentiful birdlife including cranes, flamingoes and eagle owls, as well as blue bulls at the forest edge. You can also enjoy a cooking lesson in traditional cuisine and a spot of local liquor tasting.

Lakshman's 'Zero Kilometer' policy where all materials have been sourced from the local area including its quirky windchime made from brass utensils and a converted oil drum as a table (in bright orange!).
Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

Some rooms are a bit further from the lake, so it's really worth asking for a cottage with a lake view to soak up from your plunge pool.
Something to think about

Something to think about

Lakshman has a set menu of traditional dishes so if you like to have a bevy of options, this could be an adjustment. Although, breakfast is continental with more of a selection.
