About Lodge Caleta Gonzalo
Be transported into a wonderland of forests and mystical mountains. At Lodge Caleta Gonzalo, immerse yourself in nature. You'll find the lodge nestled in the foothills of Pumalin National Park. As the only sheltered accommodation in the park, guests will have privileged access to a network of hiking trails. A million acres of lush landscapes are on your doorstep, waiting for you to come and explore!
The park itself has an interesting history and represents important strides in restoring, protecting, and celebrating the incredible landscape. Douglas Tompkins, the co-founder of The North Face and Esprit clothing labels, initiated the conservation efforts when he purchased this tract of land in 1991 with the intention to preserve its biodiversity and prevent the corrosion or development of the natural environment. The land was later donated to the government and, as a national park, continues to stand for the protection and preservation of the wild Chilean Patagonia.
Secluded between trees and overlooking the fjord, these cabins are completely at one with the landscape. Designed and built by Douglas Tompkins himself, the cabins embrace simplicity in a way that seeks to limit the visual and environmental impact on their surroundings. After a day exploring the natural world, settle in your cozy cabin or enjoy some hearty food at the lodge's restaurant.
To this day, the lodge prioritises sustainable tourism and conservation efforts. Family owned and operated, the staff are passionate about sharing their love of the region with their guests. The lodge is all about the value of immersive experiences over material acquisitions. Through a range of adventurous activities, such as trekking, rafting, kayaking, and horseback riding, your stay will bring you closer to nature.
You can access the park by car or a scenic private flight that give's you a birds'-eye view of the stunning landscape.
