Built from wood and stone, the four-level hotel building is a typical Fuegian construction and framed beautifully by the snowy peaks of the imposing Andes behind it. The gated community provides a tranquil and private atmosphere away from the bustle of downtown Ushuaia, and there's an in-out pool, excellent spa and sauna for ultimate R&R. For dining, Reinamora restaurant features local fueguino and Patagonian dishes - don’t miss out on the king crab - and it’s also where you'll find the plentiful breakfast buffet in the morning. The wine bar is ideal to kick back and sample some regional wines, while the cosy, glass-framed, winter garden terrace is the best spot in the house to soak up the views.
All 54 rooms are simple but tasteful and come equipped with individual heat control and tea and coffee stations for something warm before bed. Most come with a Queen-sized bed, and views are either mountain range (the lower categories) or towards the Beagle Channel - worth the small extra cost! There's also a junior suite with a splendid private balcony, but the senior suite goes all out with its exclusive deck, inviting jacuzzi and enormous bed in front of the even larger picture windows.
One of the best things about Los Cauquenes is the sheer range of activities on offer - you’ll wish you had more time to keep exploring. Boasting the only private boat excursions in Ushuaia, you can revel in the beauty of the Beagle Channel from the water, with only a handful of other guests. Head to Alicia and Martillo Islands to check out the penguins and amazing birdlife, see the famous Eclaireurs lighthouse, or opt for overland adventures to Lapataia or Puerto Almanza. The hiking possibilities are endless, and there are also glacier excursions and even snowmobile outings. Cooking classes or gourmet experiences aboard the hotel’s boat are also available, and we haven’t event covered half of it…
Wild, rugged and downright incredible, the “End of the World” is prime bucket-list material
