Four fully-equipped thatch and stone chalets lie along the banks of the crystal clear Ts'ehlanyane River about a kilometre from the elegant Maliba Mountain Lodge, which has an excellent restaurant if you feel like a change from self-catering. Property details

The property

Each of the four double storey chalets has a huge open-plan lounge and dining room, with a large fireplace and heating for the icy winter months, and a patio with a barbecue overlooking the tumbling rapids of the Ts'ehlanyane River. Modern kitchens come fully equipped for self-catering, while there’s also the option to dine at Maliba Mountain Lodge nearby. The chalets have light and airy interiors with simple yet stylish décor, comfortable practical furniture and a relaxed country style.

The rooms

The chalets have four spacious bedrooms each; these can be set up as doubles or twins to accommodate up to eight people, making this an ideal choice for a family or small group of friends. The master bedroom has an en-suite bathroom, and there’s an upstairs balcony overlooking the picturesque riverbank below. The rooms are comfortable, with a homely cottage feel, quality linen, and welcome additional luxuries like electric blankets for the cold winter nights.

Activities

Ts'ehlanyane National Park has a network of mountain bike tracks and hiking trails, offering the chance to explore at your own pace and look out for small antelope and the abundant birdlife along the way. Horse riding can be arranged, and the routes usually include visits to traditional Basotho villages – a great way to get an insight into Lesotho’s fascinating culture. In winter, the mountains are often blanketed with snow, making for ideal skiing and snowboarding conditions.
