Spread across 17 acres facing the Pacific Ocean, Hangaroa aims to play its part in assisting a thriving wilderness and community. The kitchen prides itself on healthy, regional cuisine - their goal is having zero kilometres between ingredients and the plate - and sprawling breakfast buffets and locally-inspired lunches are served at Poerava, while the intimate Kaloa offers a seafood-heavy dinner menu. Enjoy a little R&R at the sea-facing pool (or next-door bar) or head to the calming Manavai Spa for a hydrotherapy soak, four-hands massage or chocolate body scrub.
Scattered throughout the gardens, the rooms are set in private, authentic huts with grass-covered roofs (minimising the need for aircon or heating too), stone walls and polished larch wood pillars. The rooms are open-plan with a sitting area, King-sized bed and the scene-stealing shiny black bathtub (there is also a mosaic-ed shower and volcanic stone basins). French doors open onto a terrace overlooking the ocean - a view you'll come back to again and again. The Maunga rooms are double-storey with a sunken lounge and two sofa beds, making them ideal for families.
The resort's expert naturalist guides will take you on an adventure across Rapa Nui, considered the most remote inhabited island on the planet. Visit Rano Raraku, where most of the moais were carved, and hear theories on how they were transported. Travel to their resting sites, from the scenic Ahu Tongariki plateau, Vinapu, where one of the few female moai is found, or dive to see sunken moai. Trek through enigmatic caves, gaze into the crater of Rano Kau Volcano and see Orongo Village, or take a dip at the pink sand Ovahe beach.
