About Patios De Cafayate Hotel & Spa

A carefully-restored 19th century estancia with 21st century comfort.
Offering a unique glimpse into the past, the original farmstead of Patios de Cafayate Hotel & Spa dates back to 1892 when it was the centre of a traditional wine estate of the Calchaqui Valley. Nowadays, the unique country hotel is part of the noble El Esteco winery, a working vineyard, and is surrounded by tranquil landscapes of grape-filled vineyards and hills that glimmer under the ever-present sun. Fusing high-end wines, indulgent Andean gastronomy, and charming rooms that teem with history, it's an authentic estancia experience in the middle of the Argentinian wine route.

Property details

The property

The main house is a traditional colonial estancia building with picture-perfect white exteriors and tiled roofs that merge seamlessly with the mountains and vineyards that encircle the property. Six charming patios are surrounded by galleries, while inside, antique tapestries and heavy-wooden furniture add to the rustic but charming feel. The gastronomic experience in La Rosa restaurant is one of the highlights of staying there, and meals can be enjoyed al fresco in the garden, on the colonial-style veranda overlooking the vineyards, or by the outdoor pool.

The rooms

Spread around the patios, all 32 rooms are spacious and furnished in a traditional Argentinian style: think artisanal rugs, dark wood furnishings and ceramic tiles. There's a choice of suites or rooms, and our favourites are any with a vineyard view (although the garden view is also very pretty). Inside, the bathrooms are roomy and feature antique mirrors and baths as well as piping-hot showers.

Activities

A part of the El Esteco winery, a visit to the vineyards is a must. There are an assortment of experiences on offer and you’ll have the chance to learn all about the wine-making techniques while sampling some of the finest. Horseback riding through the vines is another great way to spend the day, and if you’re looking to explore a bit further, the speedy staff can help arrange excursions around the Calchaqui Valleys or even a game of golf in a nearby 18-hole course. And for winding down, there’s nothing like some quality time poolside or a heavenly massage at the excellent spa.

Don’t leave without trying the llama carpaccio in the restaurant - you’ll thank us! And for the perfect poolside companion, opt for a crisp glass of torrontés with a side of empanadas.

Located in Cafayate, getting to the hotel requires a (beautiful) three-hour drive from Salta, so factor this car time in if you’re only planning to spend a night or two.
