As is traditional, the riad is centred around a bright courtyard dotted with orange trees, sunken couches, and a small pool. The restaurant is vibrant and stylish with high-backed chairs, fluttering drapes and meals served under colourful, pointed cloches. While local musicians play, tuck into hearty Fassi dishes passed down for generations like couscous tfaya and pastilla 'au Lait' for dessert. And for those after-dinner drinks, head to the rooftop terrace and enjoy the twinkling views.
The rooms are a sensational mix of old and new, with King-sized beds (some four-poster), eclectic artwork, ornate mirrors, and hand-picked furnishings in the sitting area. The bathrooms are swanky with a deep bath, marble and zellige finishes, and double vanities. With unrivalled views over the medina from its private terrace, the Ambassador Suite occupies the top floor. Decorated in bold pieces and cream couches, it has an ultra spacious lounge. Other amenities include a flat-screen TV, minibar, and iPod docking station.
Perhaps begin your day with yoga on the rooftop terrace or a massage in the hammam, before heading out to find leather items at the medieval tannery and spices at the souk. The riad is only a few minutes from the 14th-century Medersa Bou Inania, the Chouara Tannery, and Al Quaraouiyine Mosque, one of the oldest universities in the world, so nothing is too far. For a more adventurous day out, hike to the summit of Mount Zalagh or ride horseback in the foothills of the Middle Atlas Mountains.
Take a step back in time, and let the culture and spirituality of Fez beguile you.
