About Rosewood São Paulo

A design icon blending history, art, and stunning gardens in Brazil’s cultural capital.
At the heart of the Cidade Matarazzo complex, Rosewood São Paulo has redefined what a city hotel can be. A former maternity hospital from the early 20th century, it has been painstakingly (and lovingly) restored and paired with an incredible soaring vertical-garden tower by architect Jean Nouvel. Inside, Philippe Starck’s interiors weave Brazilian woods, beautiful textures, and over 450 works of art into the glamorous space. Six restaurants and bars keep the energy flowing, from lazy breakfasts in Le Jardin to evening cocktails at the Rabo di Galo jazz bar. Add two pools, the holistic Asaya spa, and sweeping views across the city, and this is truly São Paulo’s most imaginative and luxurious address.

Property details

The property

The complex spans 30,000 square meters across two dramatically different buildings connected by manicured garden paths. The lobby doubles as a bookshop-lounge and two outdoor pools (one a rooftop infinity) and beautifully landscaped garden courtyards offer serene escapes above the city. The holistic Asaya spa (designed by Starck) is a wellness dream and its mirrored rooms, crystal chamber and feather motifs are the ultimate in relaxation. There are also six dining and drinking destinations, including the classic café, Le Jardin, and a sultry jazz bar, Rabo di Galo, serving everything from light lunches to sumptuous, four-course affairs.

The rooms

All 181 rooms feature Starck's sophisticated Brazilian modernism with polished wood-panelled walls, bespoke furniture, and curated art objects from guitars and traditional instruments to original works in spice-rack hues. The tower rooms offer floor-to-ceiling windows and private balconies, while the historic building suites include enormous lounges, fireplaces and beautiful balconies with arched French doors. Bathrooms are marble sanctuaries with walk-in rain showers, Toto toilets, and Votary toiletries. The crown jewel, however, is the 12,000 square foot penthouse with double-height living areas, a rooftop jungle garden, and the infinity pool overlooking Avenida Paulista. Wow.

Activities

Step straight out of the hotel and into Avenida Paulista, São Paulo’s beating heart, with its shopping, nightlife and the iconic MASP museum. Wander around leafy Ibirapuera Park, where Oscar Niemeyer’s modernist pavilions host art and music events, or lose yourself in the designer boutiques of Oscar Freire Street. Back at the hotel, listen to live jazz at Rabo di Galo, the sultry 1930s-inspired club, and explore the 450 artworks by 57 Brazilian artists, from Sandra Cinto and Vik Muniz to emerging talents, that are scattered throughout the buildings and gardens.

This is luxury as art and expect a price tag to match... But it’s worth it for the totally immersive design experience.
