About Sanctuary Stanley's Camp

A choir to welcome you, one glorious camp and wildlife everywhere
Set among ebony and sausage trees, Stanley’s Camp is located on a 260,000-acre (406-square-mile) private concession bordering the Moremi Game Reserve. The wilderness constantly changes in the delta area. When rain falls on the Angolan highlands, it flows east and south, filling the delta and drawing in millions of animals and birds. During the dry season, the waters disappear and few animals remain.

Property details

The property

The tented communal area (with chandeliers!) is beautifully decorated in neutral colours, with comfortable chairs in which to settle back and read one of the lodge's many reference books, have a drink or cup of tea, play chess or chat. There's a well-stocked bar and the meals are excellent – very fresh considering the remoteness of this area. Outdoors on the deck is a swimming pool with loungers and a fire pit.

The rooms

Eight tented rooms are raised on hardwood floors. Beautifully decorated in real "Out of Africa" style, they are spacious, with large comfortable beds and an en-suite bathroom. There's no aircon, but the ceiling fan and shade cast by the trees keep the indoor temperature manageable during the day (nights are cooler). The room flows on to a wooden deck with a hammock and deep seating, views of the wilderness and the animals that come really close.

Activities

As at other safari lodges, Stanley's Camp offers productive day and night game drives, interacting with elephants rescued from culling activities, walking safaris, seasonal mokoro rides through the delta and watching the hyaenas that live in a number of dens close to camp.

The camp has access to a unique Living with Elephants interaction programme. Walk with a duo of orphaned elephants – it's an uplifting experience and one that will remain with you long after you’ve left.
