Property details

The property

Shinde Camp's unique main area is a free-flowing, multi-levelled canvas tree house, with a wooden staircase linking the decks. Set amongst intertwined ebony, fig and mangosteen trees, it has a real Robinson Crusoe atmosphere. The interior is a more plush affair, however, with comfy sofas, chairs and polished-wood furnishings in the lounge and a banquet-style seating arrangement in the dining area, with one long table at which delicious home-style meals are shared. Beyond, there's a camp fire area and an inviting swimming pool.

The rooms

The eight spacious tents are built on raised wooden platforms, so you have uninterrupted views of the wide, wide grasslands and flowing waterways. Each tent is well appointed with everything a safarigoer needs: comfortable twin or king-sized beds, generous mosquito nets and spacious en-suite bathrooms with hot and cold running water for showers. On the covered deck, a day bed beckons you to sit back and watch the world go by as you shelter from the midday sun.

Activities

There's plenty to do at Shinde, so your visit is never uneventful. Take a day or night game drive, or spend a full day in the bush with a packed lunch for an outdoor picnic. Go on a safe walking safari with a well-trained, armed guide to get close to the finer details of this wilderness and, possibly, an encounter with some of the bigger animals. Before or after your mokoro trip through the waterways, try your hand at catch-and-release fishing – the water teems with interesting species.
