Six Senses Con Dao

Designed to mimic a traditional fishing village, the 'high street' has a collection of wood-clad restaurants and shops. Vietnamese at the Market serves a smorgasbord of local favourites and By the Beach is a smart setting to enjoy more international fare and buckets of seafood. The Wine Cellar caters to all your fine dining needs. Take your drinks at the quirky Elephant Bar or next to the mirror-like pool, and there's unlimited scoops at the parlor to accompany beach walks. Set in tropical gardens, the spa is a natural highlight with its toe-tingling scrubs.

Set various distances from the beach (some barely off the sand), each villa is an iteration of bamboo walls, neutral tones and a private pool. The large beds are draped in netting (and come with a sea view), the bathrooms are stylishly simple and the lounge is an airy space with a smattering of sunny cushions, a TV and mini bar. The larger villas have 3 or 4 bedrooms in rustic pavilions and an eclectic dining room (to enjoy dinners prepared by a private chef), which leads onto a patio and well-sized infinity pool.

Explore the archipelago with a morning of snorkelling amongst darting bamboo sharks and manta rays; kayak down the coast to find increasingly remote beaches or island hop to see the sights - and enjoy a picnic on the sand. Hike through the greenery, spying the resident birdlife and stopping to capture the view as you go. Explore Con Dao's marketplaces and ancient pagodas by motorbike and soak up the last rays of sun as you cruise the bay. Finish the night with a spot of stargazing at the resort's observatory.
