Property details

The property

Blending perfectly into the hillside, the hotel feels like a genuine retreat. Once inside, there's an updated take on Andean-inspired décor: a mix of mod furniture, mahogany, gold and maroon with pops of colour on rugs and playful pillows. A buffet breakfast is served at Qunuq restaurant, which also offers lunch and dinner, and features Andean fusion dishes or a taster menu. And don’t bypass the bar: it has a range of unique creations using the freshest and most interesting local ingredients.

The rooms

There are 60+ rooms in the hotel, all following the theme of dark woods, maroon fabrics and gold accents. Standard amenities include huge TVs, stocked minibars, coffee machine and a selection of fresh teas as well as seating areas. Bathrooms are solid marble with bathtubs and rain showers, while the comfy beds are dressed in goose-down duvets for a guaranteed good snooze. Some suites have a private jacuzzi and even butler service, and the river-facing rooms are extra special.

Activities

Plenty of special Machu Picchu experiences are available, such as visits accompanied by a traditional shaman for a mystical exploration of the sanctuary. If travelling as a couple, you might go for an Andean wedding ceremony, while foodies can opt for a variety of gastronomic experiences, both onsite and out. Nearby attractions include hikes to the hot springs or butterfly house, while the hotel offers different activities tailored for kids, giving parents the perfect break to relax at the hotel’s Aqlla spa.

Why we love it

Why we love it

The complimentary experiences offered by the hotel, including culinary demonstrations and cocktail masterclasses. Who doesn’t love a free ceviche and Pisco sour? Kids get mini-chef classes and Andean story time too, all on the house.
Insiders tip

Insiders Tip

The bus from Machu Picchu passes right in front of the door and drivers will happily make a quick stop to drop you off - just ask! Your feet will be happy to skip the walk from the station after a full day of exploring.
Something to think about

Something to think about

Some rooms at the back of the hotel or on the ground floor get a little noise from the tracks and buses heading up to Machu Picchu. Light sleepers might be better off in one of the river-view rooms.
