Machu Picchu Trips & Tours

A mix of mystery and sublime beauty, this Modern Wonder of the World hardly needs an introduction
Machu Picchu is a bucket list destination for millions of travellers across the world - and it’s easy to understand why. Considered one of the greatest archaeological finds of the 20th century, the “Lost City of the Incas” is a towering stone citadel sitting on a 2,430-metre ridge surrounded by mountains draped in green. Its history is both fascinating and mysterious, its hundreds of stone buildings are a feat of engineering genius, and the backdrop is, to say the very least, spectacular. Whether you get there after a few days of challenging hikes or take the train and bus combo, your first view of the Inca citadel will have you lost for words. And remember to take your time: there’s plenty of exploring to do and a million photos to take...
Things to do

What to do in Machu Picchu

Of all the destinations in Peru, Machu Picchu is perhaps the most well-known and a true bucket lister. There are multiple ways to reach this ancient citadel, including a train ride, day trek, or the Inca Trail, which will take you through valleys and jungles before revealing Machu Picchu on the fourth day. Wander round the impressive Incan fortress, its temples, palaces and homes, all amazingly-preserved and marvel at the Intihuatana Stone (a sun dial indicating their deep knowledge of astronomy) and Royal Tomb as your guide shares Machu Picchu's history. You could even climb the stone steps of Huayna Picchu for an incredible view from the top.

Why you'll love it

Why you'll love it

You’ve probably seen enough pictures of Machu Picchu to think that you know what awaits, but trust us: this is one place you have to see - and feel! - for yourself.
Off the beaten track

Off the beaten track

It's one of the most-visited destinations in the world and there will inevitably be tourist crowds (sorry!). Minimise the hubbub by arriving as early as possible or staying until just before closing time. And, if you’re up for it, try the Inti Punku trail or Machu Picchu mountain instead of the more popular Huayna Picchu climb.

Machu Picchu is surrounded by cloud forest and, depending on the weather, you might not get that picture-perfect, blue-skies view of the citadel. Consider the season when planning your visit!
