About The Peninsula Bangkok

Just a boat ride from the gems of Bangkok, seasoned hospitality lives here.
Sitting pretty next to the shimmering Chao Phraya River, The Peninsula has become a staple in this 'Venice of the East'. At a whopping 40 floors, the hotel rivals its neighbouring skyscrapers and some suites come with a telescope to soak up the city before you hit the streets. The hotel's signature wave shape guarantees a river view from every room! Make the most of the idyllic scene at the spa's whirpool overlooking the river or sipping on a 'Thaijito' - an original combo of Thai rum, peach schnapps, lime, mint, pineapple and raw sugar. The hotel isn't far from Bangkok's all-fascinating Old Town so exploring is in order.

Property details

The property

The pool barely seems separate from the river and has its share of loungers and pointy-roofed salas for a private dinner. In a historic three-storey building, the spa is lovely and atmospheric. The hotel has a spread of dining options from Chinese specialties at Mei Jang to alfresco Thai lunches at Thiptara and themed dinners at the River Terrace. You can grab a drink at the Art Deco-inspired bar or the casual pool bar. For a tad more activity, enjoy a game of tennis, join a yoga session or try your hand at Muay Thai boxing.

The rooms

Furnished with a king-size or twin bed, the rooms have teak floors, silk curtains, and artworks and ceramics from across Asia. The en-suite bathrooms are decked out in marble and Oscar de la Renta amenities. The suites have everything from dining areas under crystal chandeliers to an outdoor hot tub. The Duplex Suite is like a mansion on its own with two rooms, a study and terrace on each floor. Other features include a mini bar, Nespresso machine and a daily fruit basket.

Activities

By boat or by tuk tuk, the sights of Bangkok are at your fingertips. Climb to the top of the Golden Mount, an ancient shrine with outstanding views of the Old Town. See the 151-foot-long Reclining Buddha at Wat Pho - be sure to gather coins on the way to leave behind for good luck. Visit the temples of Chinatown or Phahurat Market or 'Little India', where you'll find textiles of every shade. Learn about Thailand's age-old river culture at the Royal Barges Museum before returning for cocktails by the river.

While very polished, the rooms can feel a little light on traditional Thai character.
