About The Plettenberg Hotel

Five-star fabulousness at this iconic hotel in Plettenberg with panoramic sea views.
Perched on a rocky headland in the heart of one of South Africa’s favourite seaside vacation towns, The Plettenberg is a luxurious hotel that showcases some seriously breath-taking vistas from long stretches of golden beaches to mountains and dense, green forests. The accommodation and service are five-star fabulous, and the hotel is popular with people looking for some top-end relaxation and pampering. Plettenberg itself is a holiday resort with an interesting history and lots of nature reserves on its doorstep, so there's plenty to see and do - unless sunbathing on the beach or poolside is your dream, in which case The Plettenberg is pretty good for that too.

The property

The main area includes two restaurants and numerous plush seating areas. The marine-themed SeaFood Restaurant has a menu inspired by the freshest locally sourced products that are served all day. Try the chive and parmesan-crusted linefish and grilled king tiger prawns or delicious low-roasted crispy duck with exotic mushrooms. Off the Sun Lounge, The Sandbar is a charming and well-stocked bar, where you can taste fine wines, cocktails and mocktails, and a range of the barman's creations. There's a gift shop, a wellness spa in the courtyard and two pools overlooking the sea.

The Plettenberg has 35 individually designed rooms. All feature soft and soothing décor, en-suite bathrooms, air conditioning and spectacular views. The room types include luxury double rooms with under-floor heating and balconies, and suites with under-floor heating, a lounge and a bedroom. The building – it’s a converted 19th-century mansion and commands a second glance, even the second, third and fourth time you see it!

Something to think about

Something to think about

The service is pretty much faultless, but the hotel is quite large so don’t expect first-name terms or to see the same faces every day.
