What to do in Plettenberg Bay

Some say that the seaside town of Plettenberg Bay is South Africa in a nutshell… and they wouldn’t be wrong. First up, the landscapes are simply spectacular, be it the rolling waves and beach-scapes, or the looming crags of the Tsitsikamma Mountains. Get out and explore on active hikes into the hills or around the Robberg Nature Reserve on the peninsula; there are trails to suit everyone from young families to seasoned hikers. Otherwise, unroll your towel on the golden sands and live the ultimate Plett lifestyle by the beach. Animal-wise, you’ll be spoilt with boat trips to spot resident pods of dolphins, whale-watching cruises (June to November), and, around the Robberg Peninsula, sea kayaking and snorkelling expeditions to the breeding colony of seals. On dry land, Monkeyland is a favourite with young and old, whilst nearby Birds of Eden is a riot of colour and exotic feathers. Completing the trio is the town itself.
