About Tuli Safari Lodge Mashatu

Superb hospitality in Botswana's wild, eastern corner

Tuli Safari Lodge sits in the Northern Tuli Game Reserve, a region known as the "Land of Giants." Why? Large red rocky outcrops and enormous baobabs stud the landscape, and there's more elephants around than you can shake a stick at. The lodge itself is a smart, modern and sophisticated sanctuary amidst the wilderness and set in a shady forest on the banks of the legendary Limpopo River, with views over the valley beyond. As for the wildlife in the reserve, it's varied and abundant, thanks to the diversity of habitats, and you'll have the chance to spot everything from lion, leopard, wild dogs and cheetah to eland (Africa's largest antelope), zebra and prolific birdlife.

Property details

The property

The lodge's main area is a collection of thatched structures balanced on various levels of stone platforms, and houses a lounge and bar, dining room, gift shop and a lovely, paved pool area. Everything connects via stone pathways fringed by orderly green lawns, and the mixture of traditional architecture and minimalist, modern decor is a winsome match. Be sure to kick back on the outside decks and enjoy the incredible rock and baobab landscape, or take an easy stroll around the grounds and spot the dozens of birds, monkeys and small antelope.

The rooms

Eight luxury tented suites are spacious, airy and elevated. They present themselves as draped canvas walls and roofs over timber frames. Large wrap-around decks provide a relaxing outdoor space with views over the gardens and surrounding bush. The interiors are a modern interpretation of the classic ‘out of Africa’ décor, with a flowing open plan design.

Activities

A day at Tuli Safari Lodge can be as busy or as low-key as you like: head out for an early morning game drive, and mix things up with a walk or an hour sitting in one of the hides, savour an afternoon drive or enjoy a night drive, which may just yield a rare glimpse of an aardwolf, aardvark or pangolin. Don't miss a day-trip to the confluence of the Shashe & Limpopo Rivers, the point where South Africa, Zimbabwe and Botswana meet. Otherwise, you might just want to take some time out and sit by the pool - and that's totally fine too.
