Zero Hotel has a quaint, old-fashioned feel to it with original bay windows and parquet floors, reminiscent of its 19th-century glory days. The breakfast room enjoys fabulous views of the city through vast windows that provide a sunny, light start to the day - or, enjoy your morning on one of the terraces (there are many), on a sun lounger or from the Jacuzzi. Plush rugs run along corridors adorned with funky artwork, and there's a lounge and 'honesty' bar to partake in too.
There are just nine boutique rooms, all decorated with photographs of the city, antique light fixtures and bright drapes. They each have a King-sized bed draped in throws and Egyptian cotton linens, and some rooms have a small sitting area with cosy armchairs. The bathrooms are spacious with well-appointed amenities, marble countertops and a shower/bathtub. Four of the rooms enjoy views of the bay, while the others face the hillside and tall windows let in plenty of light.
Valpariaso is filled with street art, which you'll discover on strolls across the hillsides including the 'Museum of the Open Sky', where 20 murals were painted by top Chile lodges and have been added to over time. Get to know the city's naval history at the Naval and Maritime Museum and Lord Cochrane Museum of the Sea, or ride the historic El Peral funicular to the harbour for a walk along the bay as you watch the ships go by and dine on Chorrillana, Valparaiso's signature dish.
Multi-coloured, quixotic, haphazard perfection awaits in Chile’s second-largest city
