About Duba Plains Camp

Old classic, African safari style luxury in the heart of the Okavango Delta

Surrounded by 77,000 acres of pristine woodland and vast wilderness expanse, Duba Plains Camp makes the most of Botswana's lush and biodiverse wide open spaces. The camp forms part of a private concession, tucked away on a palm-dotted island beneath giant Ebony trees and overlooking expansive flood plains. Here, prides of lion and herds of buffalo make their way across the more remote northern stretches of Botswana's Okavango Delta. Only accessible by air and having recently undergone a sumptuous refurbishment, Duba Plains is the epitome of classic safari style in an area rich with wildlife for exclusive viewing.

Property details

The property

Shaded by Ebony trees and surrounded by emerald swamps, the elegantly styled main tent seems to float atop the floodplain, with an expansive deck for soaking up the view. The indoor living area is stylish yet inviting, furnished with a large wooden dining table, high-back leather chairs, ottomans and plush rugs. An adjoining library nook and wine cellar sits behind draped canvas and carved wooden door frames. The fire deck is perfectly positioned for magnificent sunsets.

The rooms

Five bespoke tents and one two-bedroom suite 'float' above the floodplain on recycled railway sleepers. Each has its own marvellous view and a private verandah to keep an eye on passing wildlife. Leather couches and rich-toned rugs combine stylishly with eclectic wooden doors and brass bath and shower fittings. Elegant and luxurious, each tent is designed with elements of the forest in mind, but also a sense of old-world romance, found in the softly draped linen and other charming details.

Activities

Expect extraordinary wildlife experiences, with lions, leopards, elephants and buffalo at the top of the list. As Duba is situated on its own private concession, all of your game viewing will be exclusive. Game drives go out twice a day, or if the water levels are high enough, spend some time cruising the swamp's glistening waterways in a boat. If there's one thing you will never forget, it's that sundowner on the flood plain.

The day's schedule is your to dictate. Spend hours with a single lion pride? Roam the plains following herds of red lechwe? It's entirely up to you.

The area is synonymous with the Tsavo Pride lions. Stay for three or four days to improve your chances of seeing the pride's famous buffalo-hunting tactics.
