El Mapi has a chic design with a strong eco-theme. The focus on nature is present throughout the property featuring cool details like repurposed glass-bottle chandeliers, eucalyptus beams, amazonian vines and moss covered walls. These wood and greenery details complement the otherwise minimalistic décor and whitewashed or charcoal walls, some of which are painted with handy information of hotel services and policies. The restaurant serves wholesome local and organic food, the bar has fantastic cocktails and there’s also a spa with great treatments and views.
There are 122 rooms and eight suites in the hotel. All decently-sized, they offer twin or king-sized beds dressed in 100% Peruvian cotton sheets and bathrobes, white-tiled bathrooms with granite floors and a standing shower. The minimalistic décor features rustic wooden headboards and sleek furniture, while fun travel-related quotes embellish the walls (and happy hour reminders are painted on the bathroom mirrors!). A minibar and DirectTV are also standard, while only suites have coffeemakers.
Excursions offered by the hotel (at an extra fee) include guided visits to Machu Picchu with hikes up the Wayna Picchu or Apu Machu Picchu mountains within the sanctuary. Standard half-day tours to the citadel are also available, although these can of course also be done guide-less. The Mandor Valley trek is another excellent activity - great for birdwatching and a refreshing dip in the waterfall - while a chill session at the spa’s sauna or heated plunge pool is highly recommended for sore muscles.
