Elephant Pan is a comfortable and rustic small tented camp in a remote part of the huge Khwai Private Reserve. This vast wilderness area falls within some of Botswana’s finest game viewing areas, with Chobe National Park to the east, and Moremi National Park along the southern region. The camp overlooks a permanent waterhole, which acts as a magnet for a variety of species, particularly during the harsh dry season when water is scarce. Game viewing is superb, and the simplicity of the camp puts the focus firmly on a truly wild safari experience.
Beneath the mopane trees, eight simple but comfortable canvas tents are set along a sandy pathway. Classic safari tents in design, they are surprisingly spacious, with full size twin beds and a charmingly rustic en-suite bathroom and shower at the rear, separated from the bedroom by a canvas screen. There is also a fabulous sleep out platform a short distance from camp, with comfortable beds and mozzie nets, should you feel like getting slightly closer to nature.
The underground elephant hide. Only a few minutes away from camp, you’ll come nose-to-tusk (safely!) with the enormous pachyderms as you watch them from ankle-level.
Add some excitement to your stay and book a night at one of the nearby Skybeds; you can sleep under the stars as the wild things roam beneath you for a real night to remember.
Some of the game drives venture into the public section of the reserve, which is a touch busier than the private sector where the camp itself is located.
Elephant Pan Safari Camp is owned by Natural Selection which is dedicated to conservation, partnering with local communities, governments, and organizations to protect and expand conservation areas. They build eco-friendly camps that blend into the environment and aim to inform guests about Africa's wildlife challenges and successes, hoping to inspire further positive action for wildlife conservation. A contribution of $50 per guest, which is included in the nightly rate, goes towards the above goals.
