About Explora Rapa Nui

An eco-conscious resort where the history & scenery of Easter Island is revealed.
While Easter Island (Rapa Nui) needs no introduction, the civilizations that were isolated for centuries on the volcanic formation in the South-Pacific Ocean still remain a mystery to many. Taking full advantage of the dramatic isolation, the Explora is well positioned to uncover some of this intrigue, and explore the craters and plateaus and come face-to-face with the famous moai sculptures. The staff and local guides are all experts on their locale and there are over 30 activities on offer, all designed to showcase the uniqueness of the island. On one day, you might hike to the 'Nursery' where the Easter Island 'heads' were carved, whilst the next could have you snorkelling with the endemic marine life.

Property details

The property

Explora was built with the environment at the forefront, earning it a number of accolades and the hotel's design was inspired by the moai statues and boulder-strewn topography. The semi open-air dining room has a simple setting with an expanse of windows to showcase the view, and serves a variety of Chilean dishes including fresh seafood ceviche and empanadas. You'll meet your guide at the stylish Explorer's Bar to plot the next day's excursions. In your down time, lay out by the infinity pool, enjoy a massage at the spa or peruse the well-stocked library.

The rooms

Almost entirely built from recycled pine, there are 26 standard rooms and four larger suites. The King-sized beds have quality cotton linens and bright throws and enjoy a view of the fields and sea (in the ground floor rooms, it's a slim blue line) through vast windows. The suites have a small sitting area with rugged furnishings. The bathrooms are cool and modern with a shower and jetted tub, while each room has refillable water canteens. There are no mini fridges or TVs in the rooms, and WiFi is only accessible in the lobby.

Activities

Experience the wonders of Easter Island on scenic drives, bike rides, half or full-day hikes and boat trips. Visit the monolithic moai ruins, the unique crater lake of Rano Kau and the Birdman rock carvings, or hike to the island's highest peak where you can literally see the curvature of the Earth. You'll delve into the history of the island's original inhabitants through their structures and statues, each more marvellous than the next. The waters also boast incredible clarity and you can snorkel from tiny islets, or dive amongst sunken moai and explore the underwater 'Cathedral'.
